چکیده

Human Herpes Virus 6 (HHV6) is known to be commonly associated with encephalitis related to immunosuppression and transplantation, and to bone marrow transplantation (BMT) in particular.1 HHV-6 is known to be common in transplant recipients and lead to several clinical manifestations, such as encephalitis.1-4 HHV 6 encephalitis in patients with BMT is known as latent infection. The first such case was reported in 1994.5 HHV6 encephalitis in patients receiving immunosuppressant drugs following BMT has various clinical manifestations, suggesting the involvement of the medial temporal lobe. These include confusion, seizure, and amnesia, which lead to so-called post-transplant acute limbic encephalitis.3 Neuroimaging findings in patients with HHV6 encephalitis correspond to those found in patients with acute limbic encephalitis.3,6-8 However, cases of HHV6 encephalitis with hippocampal atrophy and glucose hypometabolism have very rarely been reported.

Herpetic encephalitis based on clinical judgment in pregnancy: case report

Background: Herpes simplex virus (HSV) encephalitis is the most common cause of sporadic encephalitis, with significant morbidity and mortality that are effectively reduced by antiviral treatment. Herpes simplex infection in pregnant women rarely results in encephalitis. The most common symptoms of a pregnant woman with herpes simplex infection are colds and skin vesicles. Herpetic encephalitis...

The immune response to herpes simplex virus type 1 infection in susceptible mice is a major cause of central nervous system pathology resulting in fatal encephalitis.

This study was undertaken to investigate possible immune mechanisms in fatal herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) encephalitis (HSE) after HSV-1 corneal inoculation. Susceptible 129S6 (129) but not resistant C57BL/6 (B6) mice developed intense focal inflammatory brain stem lesions of primarily F4/80(+) macrophages and Gr-1(+) neutrophils detectable by magnetic resonance imaging as early as day 6...

Uncommon Complications of Herpes Simplex Encephalitis in a 7 Year Old Child in Iran: A Case Report

HSV-induced encephalitis is one of the most common viral encephalitis in children with known signs and symptoms, including personality changes, fever, impaired consciousness and focal neurological deficits. Imaging findings also include temporal lobe and fronto-orbital involvement. In the present study, we present a 7-year-old girl diagnosed with HSV1-induced herpes encephalitis with unusual sy...

Magnetic resonance imaging of herpes simplex virus encephalitis: reversible asymmetric basal ganglia lesions.

We report a patient with herpes simplex virus type 1 encephalitis (HSE) who showed abnormal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signals in the basal ganglia. The lesions were asymmetric and became apparent with relapse of the neurological symptoms, but they completely disappeared, concomitantly with improvement of the illness.

Ophthalmic zoster sine herpete presenting as oculomotor palsy after marrow transplantation for acute myeloid leukemia.

A 34-year-old man relapsed 11 months after matched sibling stem cell transplantation (SCT) for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). A second remission was obtained with chemotherapy and additional stem cells. Four months later, isolated extramedullary relapse occurred in the tonsils and lymph nodes. A third remission was obtained after withdrawal of cyclosporin and radiotherapy. At 17-month, he compla...
